  • An alfresco treat at the luxury Hotel Villa Padierna in Spain

Where? La Veranda, Hotel Villa Padierna, Ctra. de Cadiz, Km. 166, 29679, Marbella, Spain ((34) 952-889-150,

I do like a bit of alfresco dining. Well, you’re in the perfect place. Shaded by vines and with fabulous views across Villa Padierna’s manicured grounds, this is a wonderful place to spoil the one you love. On the flip side, if it’s chilly outside, the restaurant’s more formal indoor dining room is just as grand a venue to indulge.

Fine dining to match the fine surroundings? Absolutely. Designed to be a ‘gastronomic fusion of Northern and Southern Spanish cuisine’, everything from the fine cavas to the cheeseboard at the end uses the very best Spanish ingredients.

Where do I start? If you’re feeling hungry, the 10-course tasting menu, which will take you through a whole universe of different taste sensations. Think dishes like roasted red mullet with crispy scale crystals, saffron-infused rock fish broth and black olive bonbon, roasted bacon, slow-cooked free-range egg, chickpea cream and thyme-flavoured garlic bread or coconut French toast with café au lait ice cream.

All washed down with? Lots of high-end cava. If you’ve had your fill of bubbles, there are plenty of gorgeous Spanish riojas, sauvignons and toros to keep even the most educated of wine buffs (or uneducated in my case), happy throughout each and every course.

Details: La Veranda at Hotel Villa Padierna is open from 8pm-11pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Booking is highly recommended.
