    Where? The Meat & Wine Co, Westfield, London W12 7GA (020 8834 4889)

Shopping, and steak? Technically yes but we can honestly say we’d risk being in the vicinity of 265 of the country’s top fashion stores on a non-shopping day just to come back here.

What’s the big draw? Meat and wine, as the name suggests. The warm orange and dark wood interiors are lined with bottles of vintage red and white from vineyards the world over, while the menu is a shrine to steak.

Let’s guess, you ate steak? Yes – the best steak to hit our plates since we went to Gaucho. But if you’re not keen on cow there’s an extensive selection of seafood, chicken and game. We kicked off with authentic African Biltong (a top-quality Beef Jerky – don’t knock it ’til you’ve tried it), before tackling starters of Boerewors (traditional African beef sausage with BBQ relish) and kangaroo. Yeah… we’re not predictable.

The verdict on kangaroo? It looks a bit like chicken, but tastes distinctly like game.

Anything else to recommend? The blue cheese vodka sauce completely rocks with steak, and there’s a feast of delights on the dessert menu. While we’re always a sucker for creme brulee (here, infused with Madagascar vanilla beans), M&W floored us with their Chocolate and Pistachio Fondante.

Overall thoughts? We just loved it – the food, the wine, the vibe, the space, the service. Our surroundings were ten times more sophisticated than expected for a steak restaurant and our Australian waitress went above and beyond.
