It was an all-American extravaganza at New York Fashion Week yesterday with design houses like Max Azria and Badgley Mischka (both household names in the US) drawing the biggest crowds of the day. The colour dial was also on max as the city’s designers got in the mood for a hot, hot summer.

Star spot of the day: Mickey Rourke had the photographers, and the starlets seated next to him, all aflutter at Max Azria.

Dress of the day: We swooned over Narciso Rodriguez’s hot pink number – it’s already a definite for next summer’s wish-list.

I spy a trend: Alice Temperley’s entire Temperley London collection was inspired by the circus, but she’s not the only designer with high jinks in mind, theatrical themes are cropping up everywhere. We blame Take That and Britney, after all with two circus-themed pop tours clogging up the world’s stadiums it was only a matter of time before the fashion world decided to tag along for the ride, too.

Must-have accessory of the day: Ear plugs, if only to make sitting through the Baby Phat show bearable. Every other person in the front row had their fingers in their ears for the duration.
