Paris mourns as YSL's funeral takes place
The funeral of fashion legend Yves Saint Laurent took place in Paris today.
The French capital’s Saint Roch church was filled with the designer’s many friends and contemporaries from the fashion world, including Valentino, Claudia Schiffer, John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Lacroix and current YSL designer, Stefano Pilati.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy and wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy also attended to pay their respects.
Catherine Deneuve, a long term friend of the designer recited a poem at the ceremony, which was watched by thousands of onlookers on giant screens outside the church.
The 71-year old designer died on Sunday in Paris of a brain tumour.
As a mark of respect, Yves Saint Laurent stores worldwide were shut for the duration of the funeral.
