Romantic sights and fine dining in North Wales
Where? The Quay, Deganwy Quay, Deganwy, Conwy, North Wales LL31 9DJ (01492-564100, www.quayhotel.com)
Mood? With the twinkling from boats across the harbour flickering outside the windows, there’s something undeniably romantic about this restaurant, despite the rather business-orientated hotel that houses it and, dare we say it, elderly clientele.
Why go? Become you don’t have to be in a big city to enjoy haute cuisine
To eat? Pigeon is a popular choice on both the table d’hôte and a la carte menus, as are king scallops. If you’re feeling flush, opt for one of The Vue’s signature dishes – think Welsh lamb or roasted sea bass – as this is where its chefs really go to town. If you’re lucky enough to visit on a day when treacle tart is on any of the menus, make sure you order it. Diet or no diet.
To drink? The Garnacha Rosé from Navarra, Spain, is very reasonably priced and deliciously fruity. If that gets you in the mood for more pink options, there’s also a lovely Sancerre Rosé on the menu.
Need to know? There are numerous events for foodies and wine lovers throughout the year; call the hotel for updated diary listings.
