After a hard day's shopping on Kensington High Street, here's a lovely spot for coffee and cake
Where? 9 Kensington Square, London W8 5EP (020-7938 2598)
Kitchen delights? Light, bright and breezy, this simply-furnished, café-cum-restaurant is the perfect place for brunch, coffee with the girls or a simple lunch date.
What’s on the menu? We dropped by at lunch and munched happily away on the salad of the day (£6) – a delicately garnished Greek salad with grilled Haloumi – fish pie with peas (£8) and Mediterranean vegetable and pesto frittata (£7). For those who make it in earlier in the day, brunch dishes include scrambled organic eggs on sourdough toast (£4.50) and egg and bacon burger with avocado and tomato salsa (£5). There are also cakes, muffins, pastries and brownies on offer for those seeking sustenance breaks in-between meals.
Best of the best? Ingredients are king here with head chef and owner Sara Adams having spent months searching for the very best produce suppliers. Coffee then, comes from Borough Market and dairy products, including yoghurt and cheese, from Neal’s Yard.
A labour of love? Most definitely. There’s no big chain behind Sara’s lovely little restaurant. Pop in and feel doubly smug that your very reasonably priced lunch is helping support a genuine independent venture.
Need to know? Kensington Square Kitchen is open Mon-Sat, from 9am-6pm. Both the upstairs and downstairs rooms are available for private hire.
