  • Laidback gastropub-style eats in London's Fulham

    Where? 308-310 North End Road, Fulham, London SW6 1NQ (020-7385 8001)

Mood? Laidback but stylish, with large leather sofas, open fires, chunky wooden tables and fabulous chandeliers

Why go? In a London borough brimful of overpriced, overfull gastropubs, The Arbiter is a welcome, well-priced respite, with main courses from as little as £6.50* and a varied, well thought out drinks menu.

To eat? There’s a Scandanavian influence thanks to one of the owner’s Danish heritage, with sharing smorgasbords of pickled herrings and cured meats or meatballs and red current compote for those who want an alternative to the chunky chips or sausages and mash. Try the vodka and vanilla cheesecake if you fancy something sweet afterwards.

To drink? Keeping it simple, there are five red wines and five whites to choose from (skimmed down from a potential shortlist of 2,500, so we’re told), plus five draft and five bottle beers. If it’s cocktails you’re after, try the unique pear and honey bellini.
