  • Stylish dining in the heart of London City

    Where? 5 Threadneedle Street, London EC2R 8AY (020 7657 8090)

Banking on a good night out? This is the place to come. The food is beyond incredible, the staff exemplary and the wine out of this world.

A haven for city-slickers then? To a certain extent – you are in the heart of the financial district after all – but at weekends the bankers move out and out-of-towners and Londoners looking for fine dining in a stylish location move in.

What’s on the menu? Ravioli of native blue lobster and Armagnac bisque might just be the best starter you’ve ever eaten, while the market fish of the day is always a treat. Known in the industry for its game dishes, if you happen to own your own country estate (what, you don’t?), you can even bring in your own during the game season and Bonds will cook it to order. Desserts, meanwhile, have a decidedly French flavour with apple Tarte Tatin or vanilla crème brulee two of the favourites.

And to drink? The wine list is lengthy and award-winning so don’t be afraid to ask for help. Our New Zealand Pinot Noir went down very nicely.

Fascinating fact: The reason the wine glasses look so shiny? Bonds uses gin to buff and polish all everything you drink from.
