  • The fashion designer stepped up to collect the accolade in a Philip Treacy creation

The Queen has seen more than her fair share of unusual hats over the last couple of months – who could forget Princess Beatrice’s now infamous creation? – so no wonder she looked completely unfazed by Katharine Hamnett stepping up to collect her CBE, surrounded by a head of feathers.

Like Bea, the designer called on milliner Philip Treacy for the statement headpiece, teaming it with a classic black dress from her own collection.

The fashion designer was honoured for her contribution to the style industry and her ongoing commitment to ethical and environmental issues, such as her recent invovement in the Project Ocean campaign, which attempts to raise awareness about over over fishing and the state of the world’s seas.
