Cherie Blair signs £1.5 million deal to write 'intimate' portrait of life at Downing Street
Cherie Blair has signed a £1.5 million deal to write an ‘intimate’ portrait of family life at Downing Street.
The former Prime Minister’s wife once described being the wife of Tony Blair as ‘like living in a goldfish bowl’, but offered the prospect of a lucrative book deal Cherie has shown she’s now willing to spill the beans on her own private life.
Publisher Little Brown said the book will be a ‘warm, intimate and often very funny portrait of a family living in extraordinary circumstances’.
Insiders at Westminster are speculating that Cherie may lift the lid on everything from her relationship with Carole Caplin and the Cheriegate scandal to her relationship with Gordon Brown, which those on the inside described as ‘venomous’.
The book will be published next October and Cherie is expecting the warts and all book to become a blockbuster, garnering US rights and even a TV or film deal.
The cash rewards could clear mortgage debts on the Blair’s £5 million home on Connaught Square.
Publicist Max Clifford said: ‘If she writes about what’s gone on behind the scenes, the kind of things that were whispered by the wife of the President, or slips in anecdotes about who secretly disappeared upstairs with someone, that would make fascinating reading. It all depends how indiscreet she wants to be.’
