Amy Winehouse tops list of Mobo music awards nominees
Finally the world of Amy Winehouse is looking brighter this week as she was nominated for four Mobo music awards yesterday.
In a week that began badly with stints in rehab and endless speculation about Winehouse and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil, the singer’s reputation remains intact.
The troubled star’s distinctive soul sound was hailed as representing the best of ‘black music’.
Winehouse is in the running for best UK female, best song, best video and best R&B. Only one other artist matched her – fellow Londoner Dizzee Rascal who has been nominated for best UK male, best song, best video and best hip-hop.
Festival-goers at the V festival were disappointed last weekend when Winehouse pulled out of her performance and the star has also cancelled a US tour in a bid to get herself back on track.
Other artists she is up against in the category for best female include Beverley Knight, Corinne Bailey Rae, Jamelia and the only other white singer, Joss Stone.
Rihanna features as the only female in the best international act category alongside P Diddy, Akon and T.I.
The awards ceremony takes place on 19 September and will be hosted by the reggae artist, Shaggy and R&B singer Jamelia – both previous award winners.
