  • Oscar gossip: Diddy's advice for new-mum Lopez

After the fascination with who’s wearing what, the best bit about the Oscars is: the gossip.

First up, Jennifer Lopez’s ex-boyfriend P Diddy has offered his former girlfriend, who’s just given birth to twins, some advice – and even vowed to send her some clothes from his Sean John baby range.

Speaking on the Kodak Theatre’s red carpet, the music mogul said: ‘[Jennifer] is going to make a great mother.

‘I’m going to send her some Sean John baby clothes – I’m so happy for her, it’s such a blessing.’

And when asked if he had any advice for the new mum, Diddy, who’s a father of twins himself, said: ‘It’s double the love, and it’s also double the crying and the screaming, so it’s a unique, blessed situation. It’s a rarity to have twins. She’ll be all right.’

Meanwhile, George Clooney made a love statement to the world – by taking a girlfriend to the Oscars for the first time ever.

George held on tightly to Sarah Larson all night, and the 46-year-old star was full of praise for his girlfriend, who was wearing a Valentino gown.

‘She looks good, huh?’ he said, adding: ‘I tried it on first and it looked terrible in me.’

The Michael Clayton actor even offered to ‘carry her’ when she noted the dress was really heavy.

The red carpet was also a place where some stars felt the need to set the record straight. Jennifer Love-Hewitt took the opportunity to blow off a little steam about those now-infamous bikini shots.

‘The thing I think is great is when those pictures were taken, no matter what, I had just been asked to marry,’ says Hewitt, engaged to Scottish actor Ross McCall, ‘so he loves me just the way I am.’

And if she does decide to something about her body, ‘I will for my health, not for typical reasons’, she says.

‘If I do work out more it will be for my health, so I can live a long time and we can have kids and be happy together until we are in our 80s.

‘It won’t be because I am worried about how I look.’

We think you look great how you are, Jennifer.
