Kiefer Sutherland begins 48-day jail sentence
We all knew it was on the cards, but Kiefer Sutherland has finally begun his jail sentence for driving under the influence (DUI).
The wayward star was put behind bars yesterday to begin his 48-day prison stint in Glendale, California, a Los Angeles suburb.
The 24 actor was sentenced earlier in the day for the DUI arrest and for subsequently violating his probation. According to a jail spokesman: ‘Mr Sutherland is very polite and humble and was very cooperative during the booking process. He will be issued an orange jumpsuit, and will be housed alone in a cell, since he’ll be a long-term inmate.’
Sutherland will be appointed prison duties including laundry and kitchen responsibilities, serving meals to other inmates. As a prison worker, the 40-year-old will be free to move around the prison ‘about 75% of the time’, instead of being confined to his cell all day.
The actor is expected to complete an 18-month alcohol education programme as well as attending weekly therapy sessions for six months.
In a previous statement Sutherland admitted: ‘I’m very disappointed in myself for the poor judgement I exhibited recently, and I’m deeply sorry for the disappointment and distress this has caused my family, friends and co-workers on 24.’
