    To eat? All dishes are under £10 and will appeal to anyone with functioning taste buds. To wet your appetite, start with the peppered smoked mackerel pate (£4.25). For the main event, we can personally vouch for the coconut beer-battered haddock (£7.95), vodka-Martini mussels steamed in Absolut and Noilly Prat (£6.25) and the oven roasted lamb skewers (£5.95). Wash it all down with the table water infused with melon, mint and cucumber. Finish with pistachio ice cream served with butterscotch sauce (£2.95).*

    To drink? The drinks menu is nothing short of revolutionary, including cherry margaritas, pear & raspberry mojitos and rhubarb gingertinis (all £4.95) prepared by veteran mixologists.*

    Need to know? The Villager is open for lunch from noon till 5pm and dinner from 5pm until 9pm. Getting a table for dinner is near impossible so book ahead. The bar is open till 1am everyday of the week. The sister bar, Dragonfly, is five minutes away at 52 West Port (0131 228 4543, and one for the night owls.
