The bandage dress reigns supreme at Hervé Léger
The Hervé Léger bandage dress has become a prerequisite across Hollywood red carpets,
spotted on the likes of Kate Winslet, Victoria Beckham and Kate Bosworth
, so it was no surprise that its autumn/winter ’09 catwalk show attracted one of the starriest front rows of the weekend.
All clad in the signature tighter-than-tight frocks, attendees included Mad Men starlet January Jones in fuchsia, an elegant Lucy Liu in black and Gossip Girl alumni Michelle Trachtenberg in dove grey.
And Léger creative director, Max Azria, gave them plenty to earmark. The collection, in a subdued autumnal palette, created plenty of variations on the bankable bandage, this time ‘to the beat of the urban tribe’ according to the designer’s show notes.
Although the hemlines were still thigh-skimming and the cut body-con, the bandeau did have a style regeneration, making it fresh for this season’s crop of hot young starlets.
Reminiscent of the likes of Balmain and Balenciaga, Azria played with exaggerated padded shoulders, to create a distinct silhouette for the style, while Africana motifs abounded, with tribal prints, snakeskin panels and braided embellishments punctuating the crop of statement dresses.
