  • Forget the catwalk show, Alice Temperley goes digital with her latest collection

Is this the future of the catwalk show? Alice Temperley heralded in a new age today when she showed her latest collection not on the runway, but via digital installation in her New York studio.

On hand to talk us through the beautiful, instantly covetable collection, Alice said they’d initially decided to skip the catwalk in favour of a film – which was accompanied by mannequins wearing the new-season clothes and more traditional stills which will be beamed around the world later today – with thoughts of the label’s environmental impact in mind, but the shape of the economy has since made it something of a win-win situation.

So did we miss the hustle and the bustle of the tents where she traditionally shows? Not really. We’re certainly not ready to sound the death knoll for runway shows altogether, but for a label famed for its intracacies, its embroidery, jewellery and attention to detail, it was a joy to be able to touch and feel all the pieces and even watch Alice rearranging the different outfits as she went.

Was anything missing for the designer herself? Only her newborn baby, who she promises is the best addition to the Temperley way of life, and the one she’s most proud of, so far.
