This is the only shoe you'll see Lucy Williams wearing this summer

And we're majorly addicted too

And we're majorly addicted too

When it comes to style influencers, you'll find it hard to find anyone who nails that whole chic yet understated, dressy but casual vibe quite like Lucy Williams. Which is why when I got the chance to chat to her, to celebrate her collaboration with uber-cool Berlin shoe brand Aeyde, I just had to ask her to give us mere mortals a style tip or two.

And while we're on the subject of shoes (my favourite), this is the one pair that's worth investing in this summer.

What inspired the collection?

After an initial meeting with aeyde, playing around with shapes and designs, I went on a road trip in America and stayed at an incredible place in the Utah desert. The colour of the sand and the patterns of the rock formations out there really fed into the final design of the ‘LUCY’ heel. The nature and landscape out there really blew me away and I definitely had a lot of images of the desert on our final mood board when I came home. I wanted to create elevated summer shoes that worked everywhere, from days and nights in the city to roaming foreign lands somewhere sunny.

How do you pick the brands you collaborate with?

Brands and projects have to speak to me on a personal level, whether that's aesthetically in that I love wearing the designs or I love the brand's message and values. Ideally it's a combination of the two! Aeyde was an easy fit and I immediately jumped at the chance. I fell in love with a pair of their suede boots last year and wore them to death so I already knew I trusted the brand's quality and look.

Which shoes are we likely to see you in this summer?

I love the suede Lucy heel. I'm not really a heels person but these are so comfortable and feel really relaxed to wear, which is exactly what I wanted to design. I love the detail and shape of the heel too, it just makes it feel a little bit different to me.

How would you wear it?

I love wearing mine with jeans or cropped linen trousers this summer, or with a sweet little button down midi dress maybe. I like things that work for just about everything or any time of day and these definitely do.

Do you ever find yourself dressing for Instagram?

I only ever wear things I own and love in real life but I definitely sometimes play around more when styling stuff for shoots or Instagram occasionally. It's fun to be more creative and try stuff out but I always keep it low-key and very much looks I'd wear out and about. I work from home and have a dog so if I didn't 'dress for ‘Instagram' occasionally I'd just be posting hoodies and leggings!

You’ve probably nailed the holiday wardrobe now, what are 10 things we all need to pack?

Denim cut-offs, black sunglasses from Le Specs or Rayban, really good SPF (I use Lancaster or Institut Estherdem), a big wide brim hat from Lack of Colour, bikinis and swimsuits from some of my favourite Aussie brands like Matteau, Peony and Faithfull the brand, dresses from Realisation Par and Reformation, a silk slip dress from Ghost, good quality, loose fitting white t-shirts from Current Elliot or The Great, a vintage denim jacket for when it's a bit colder, cropped, wide leg linen trousers and cute linen tops and shirts, flat leather or rope slides for the beach and last but not least, a really good book.

Penny Goldstone is the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire, covering everything from catwalk trends to royal fashion and the latest high street and Instagram must-haves.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
