Fancy a cocktail in Soho? Meza is the place to go...
Where? 100 Wardour Street, London W1F 0TN (020 7314 4002)
Isn’t that the Spanish place in Soho? When it opened, yes, however, for 2008, the place has expanded its repertoire to include some new Mediterranean influences on its menu, and while the food might be pan-European, the new décor is pure London cool, making this a favourite with the discerning media crowd who work around here.
What’s on the menu? Along with your usual bar nibbles, Meza offers sharing plates of fish, cheese and cured meat, along with the mini tapas it’s best known for. If you’re feeling really hungry, there are larger main meals, including salads, stews and fish cakes.
Sounds good, I’ll only need a few light bites with my cocktails. You might change your mind when you see the glasses the drinks are served in. The Meza Grand Champagne Cocktails include an entire bottle of Champagne each and – before you start stocking up on paracetamol – are designed for sharing. Alternatively, we love the Meza Cocktail Flights. Designed with the indecisive in mind (that’d be us, then), each flight contains three miniature cocktails around a classic theme, with one made the traditional way and two with a contemporary twist.
So there’s plenty of choice, then? Choice is an understatement. You could drink here every night for a year and never repeat your choice of tipple if you didn’t want to. Thankfully, the guys and girls behind the bar know their stuff and are more than happy to take the decision out of your hands and deliver a surprise if you so fancy.
Need to know? Meza is open Monday to Wednesday noon till 1am, and from Thursday to Saturday noon till 3am.
