High-end Spanish cuisine with fabulous views across London
Where? Aqua Nueva, 240 Regent Street (entrance at 30 Argyll Street), London, W1B 3BR (0207 478 0540, www.aqua-london.com)
That address sounds familiar? For anyone who ever perused the shelves at Dickens & Jones it will be, but in place of racks of clothing and handbags, you’ll now find dramatic glass hallways, hand-crafted chandeliers and lots of very well dressed diners.
Sounds fancy? With head chef Alberto Hernandez having trained at the world-renowned, three Michelin-starred El Bulli in Catalonia, this certainly isn’t your average Spanish restaurant. From the minute you arrive (in the velvet-lined, ground-floor entrance, complete with top hat-topped door man), via the rooftop view of London from the outdoor terrace, and out again, it’s all very, very swish.
High-end chef, high-end menu? A quick glance at starters of roast foie gras, cockle jelly and baby squid, certainly gives that impression, but there are also plenty of Spanish classics, including Iberico ham, braised oxtail and a wide choice of well priced red wines.
What if you’re in a hurry? Alongside the a la carte menu, there’s an all-day tapas bar that’s perfect for lunch or pre-theatre meals.
And if Spanish isn’t your thing? Aqua Kyoto, its sister restaurant, is right next door, serving top-end sushi and Japanese dishes.
Need to know? Aqua Nueva is open from Monday to Saturday, serving lunch between midday and 2.30pm and dinner between 6.30-m and 1am (last orders at 11pm); the tapas menu can be ordered anytime between midday and 1am.
