  • Splashes of colour light up the runway at Thakoon

In his third year showing at New York Fashion Week, award-winning designer Thakoon Panichgil unveiled his most challenging and experimental collection so far.

With an ever-growing army of celebrity fans – Amanda Peet kicked off fashion week in one of his creations and Kate Bosworth recently gushed, ‘I’ve always been a fan’- this up and coming designer is set for super-stardom.

His spring/summer 08 line is certainly not for the colour-shy. Splashes of jewellery-box brights, including electric blue, hot pink and vivid green, sear through navy and grey, alongside bright multi-coloured floral prints.

The show began with classic tailoring – blazers, shorts and shirtdresses – and gave way to innovative ‘convertible’ dresses, floaty skirts and glam, block-colour eveningwear.

Thakoon hinted at sexy playfulness with his accessories: fedoras, patent sandals and slimline waist belts were the choice du jour.

‘More than any other collection, this one is about mood,’ Panichgul said. ‘I’ve never worked in that manner. I’m searching for new ways to be inspired. I want to evolve and give myself opportunities to learn.’

If he needs polishing up, it’s certainly not glaringly obvious.
