As much as we love Harry Potter, there are limits to that love. Like with any character or story, Harry supposedly had his happy ending with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. All was well, right? J.K. Rowling thought so, at least. According to Teen Vogue, J.K. Rowling never wanted to make the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child after finishing the final novel. Lucky for us, she was persuaded to change her mind.
In an interview on CBS’s Sunday Morning, Rowling revealed she felt finished with the wizarding world: 'I genuinely didn’t want Harry Potter to go onstage. I felt that I was done,' she said.
'We all know I didn’t need the money,' Rowling quipped, candid as always.
That doesn’t mean that the author isn’t proud of the final product.
'I’m really glad I was persuaded, because I’m so proud of this play,' she said, crediting playwright Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany for bringing her on to tell the story of Harry’s life, 19 years after Deathly Hollows ends.
'Harry’s story, now, I think I’m done. I’m done,' Rowling added. Sorry Potterheads, it looks like the stage play might be it for now.
One thing we’re sure of is that getting tickets has been pure madness. As you queue up, thank the Harry Potter gods for convincing Rowling to work on this project and make the show as amazing as it is. Maybe they could twist her arm to do a sequel? Pretty please.
