The best of Milan Fashion Week

My fashion week highlights from the city of style

Back from Milan and, hurrah, a few days off before Paris starts in earnest tomorrow. What did I learn from Italy’s fashion capital? That if it doesn’t sparkle, shine or shimmer, it just won’t be worth wearing next season.

The best celebrity spot: Freida Pinto, marieclaire.co.uk’s favourite new style crush, looking like she’s been doing the fashion week thing for years at the Extreme Beauty in Vogue party on Monday night

Most random celebrity spot: CSI’s Gary Dourdan at Roberto Cavalli

The best front row: With Naomi Watts, Kate Hudson, Eva Mendes and more, it had to be Dolce & Gabbana

The best shows (for the fashion): Marni, Prada and Alessandro Dell’Acqua

The best shows (for the fun): D&G and DSquared2

The best show (for the make-up and music): Gucci

The biggest trends: Eighties, shimmer and sparkle, print, town and country

The if-I-eat-it-again-I-might-explode starter: Caprese salad. (Just because it has the word ‘salad’ in the title, doesn’t mean eating one’s body weight in mozzarella and tomatoes won’t have an effect on your waistline, I’ve discovered.)
