Anne Hathaway presents Valentino with Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Award
Anne Hathaway was on-hand yesterday to present Valentino with a coveted star on the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style.
The celebrated designer became the 13th recipient of the award – following in the footsteps of the likes of Tom Ford, Manolo Blahnik and Giorgio Armani.
Anne Hathaway – who looked striking in a scarlet coat and spring-appropriate floral dress – introduced her favourite designer, recalling the time she’s spent with him in the last three years since they met during the filming of The Devil Wears Prada, in which Valentino had a cameo as himself.
‘Shortly after that, I was invited to be his date at a gala,’ Hathaway said. ‘I knew it would be a great challenge to be perfect in Valentino for Valentino.
‘At my first fitting, I put the dress on backwards. Luckily there were strategically placed sequins.’
She praised his ‘bright eyes of a dreamer, his curiosity, strength and fervor.’
Upon presenting him with the ‘Torso’ statuette, Hathaway gushed: ‘Because of his friendship and influence on me, I am a Valentino creation.’
Valentino, in turn, stepped up to the podium, saying: ‘I am completely drunk with compliments. In my long career, I have more or less refused other people saying nice things about me, but now that I am older, I accept.’
The award caps off a busy week for Valentino, who has spent time attending premieres of his documentary, Valentino: The Last Emperor, which follows him in the last two years (2005 to 2007) of heading up his beloved fashion house.
