The Dark Knight sweeps the boards while Kate Hudson steals the limelight
The Dark Knight swept the boards at last night’s 35th People’s Choice Awards – winning every gong it was nominated for.
The caped crusader flick picked up five awards, including Favourite Cast, Best Superhero Action Movie and On-Screen Match-Up for Christian Bale’s Batman and the late Heath Ledger’s Joker.
Bale accepted the trophy, saying poignantly: ‘On behalf of all of the cast from the movie, thank you very much to the fans.
Meanwhile, stars such as Favourite Leading Lady winner Kate Hudson, Teri Hatcher and Reese Witherspoon injected a high dose of glamour at LA’s Shine Auditorium Theater, with Kate opting for a gorgeous turquoise Gucci spring 2009 gown and Reese wowing in a tiered LBD.
‘It’s such a great way to start the new year,’ said Four Christmases star Witherspoon upon accepting her Favourite Female Movie Star trophy.
‘A couple years ago, I won a great award for singing in a movie [Walk the Line]. This year, I won an award for having a baby throw up on me.’
The bash was hosted by the effervescent Queen Latifah, and awards – which spanned over music, television and film – were voted for by fans on the internet.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were honoured with Favourite Leading Man and Favourite Female Action star, and Ellen DeGeneres picked up Favourite Talk Show Host.
The sardonic presenter quipped: ‘I wish I could share this with you.
‘I could throw it on the ground and smash it into a million pieces, and give each one of you a little piece of it, but that’s violent, and that’s probably why you voted for me, because I’m not violent.’
