  • Kylie Minogue lands in Hollywood as she prepares for Bollywood debut

Kylie Minogue touched down in Mumbai yesterday – as she prepared to make her debut as Hollywood’s most famous ‘item girl’.

The Can’t Get You Out of my Head singer – whose albums sales have reached 60 million – flew into Mumbai on Wednesday to prepare for her part in Blue, an underwater epic, which stars Akshay Kumar and fellow Bollywood A-list stars Sanjay Dutt and Katrina Kaif.

Kylie‘s appearance in Blue earmarks the growing popularity and ambition of Bollywood films.

One of its leading players, billionaire businessman Anil Ambani, has offered to bankroll Stephen Spielberg’s new film company, and veteran stars like Sylvester Stallone have recently taken cameo roles in Bollywood productions.

Kylie, who has said the appearance is a ‘bit of fun’, will be collaborating with AR Rahman, whom she honoured at the Bafta Awards.

But it is her appearance as an ‘item girl’ that is getting her co-star hot under the collar.

The ‘item number’ is a traditional and essential feature of Bollywood films in which a sexy dancer wearing a revealing bikini or dress performs a raunchy routine which usually has no direct link to the storyline.

Her dance partner Kumar said: ‘I’ve heard Kylie moves as sweet [sic] as she sings, so it’s back to the rehearsal room for me!’
