  • Final original member of the Sugababes, Keisha Buchanan, quits amid rumours of rows

The last original member of girl band Sugababes, Keisha Buchanan, has quit the group to start her solo singing career.

Her decision to leave the award-winning group follows weeks of rumours that bandmate Amelle Berrabah was set to split over vicious rows between the two girls.

Keisha has been with the band since it was formed 11 years ago, but she will now be replaced by Jade Ewan, the UK’s Eurovision Song Contest winner.

Posting on Twitter, Keisha said it was not her choice to quit the band, but it she felt it was time to go.

Without commenting on the rumours of fights between herself and Amelle, she hinted that a ‘lack of trust‘ was behind her decision.

‘I’m sad to say I’m no longer a part of the Sugababes,’ she posted.

‘Although it was not my choice to leave, it’s time to enter a new chapter in my life. I have nothing but positive things to say about the girls and I wish them the best of luck.

‘I would like to state that there were no arguments, bullying or anything of the sort that lead to this. Sometimes a breakdown in communication and lack of trust can result in many different things.’

A spokesman for the band confirmed that Keisha, 24, had left the group, but will stay at her record company Island Records for her solo career

Rumours of fighting between the bandmates surfaced a few weeks ago when Amelle failed to appear for a number of public appearances.

Her family even feared she had been kidnapped after she did not answer her phone and no one had made contact with her.

Keisha was quick to squash any rumours that she was bullying Amelle, saying she was always seen as the ‘b**ch who causes people to walk’.

But now Keisha herself has left the band, leaving Amelle and Heidi Range to form a new group with Jade.

It is the third time the members of the band have changed; Heidi replaced Siobhan Donaghy in 2001 and Amelle took over from Mutya Buena in 2005.

The Sugababes new album Sweet 7 is due to be released on 23 November. But will anyone be left in the band by then to promote it!
