James McAvoy to star in The Hobbit
James McAvoy’s star looks set to rise, with rumours that he will be the lead in the Lords of the Ring’s prequel, The Hobbit.
The Scottish actor, who found fame in TV’s Shameless, is tipped to take the role of Bilbo Baggins in the eagerly awaited prequel to Peter Jackson’s movie trilogy.
A source revealed to The Daily Express, ‘A number of names have been doing the rounds, including Daniel Radcliffe and Jack Black, but James (McAvoy) is the one the film’s bosses really want.’
Sir Ian McKellan will reprise his role of Gandalf, although it is unconfirmed as to whether any other former cast members will return.
The film will be directed by Guillermo del Toro, and is set to start filming in New Zealand this year.
