Heather Mills faces being sued for £2m in unpaid bills
Heather Mills could be back in court earlier than she planned and this time she won’t be battling ex-husband-to-be Paul McCartney.
Mills faces a court wrangling with her own divorce lawyers, Mishcon de Reya, over £2million in unpaid bills. The law firm represented her through most of her split with Paul McCartney and now is on the brink of issuing Mills with a High Court writ to recover funds. According to the Daily Mail, the debt was run up during an 18-month period after her breakup with the former Beatle.
The same law firm also represented Princess Diana during her divorce from Prince Charles and was reportedly set to recover payments from Mills when the divorce settlement was finalised.
However, after Mills’ outbursts on several TV shows about the media’s intrusion into her personal life, her lawyers announced they could no longer represent her, and are now concerned about her ability to pay the fees owed. If a nominal divorce settlement is reached, this may only cover Mills’ other debts – leaving her ex-lawyers unpaid.
Mills and McCartney are set to return to the courts in the spring and now that Mills faces legal action from her former lawyers, her estranged husband is left in a much stronger position to offer a smaller settlement that she is hoping for.
