Madonna and Guy gear up for heavyweight custody battle
Madonna and Guy Ritchie might be about to enter a £300 million divorce war but, according to reports, it’s not money that will be the couple’s main bone of contention – it’s the children.
The singer is said to want to raise her three children, Lourdes, Rocco and David, in New York, but Englishman Guy wants them grow up in London and Wiltshire – and is reportedly upset at Madonna for wanting to whisk them off to the States.
A source told the Daily Mail: ‘Madonna wants them to be brought up in the cosmopolitan environment of New York.
‘Guy wants them to continue growing up in London and Wiltshire, being privately educated in Britain.
‘This has been the major stumbling block as to why their lawyers have not been able to negotiate an out-of-court settlement.
‘Rocco is Guy’s beloved little boy. They do everything together. He adores him. He wants him to be a Londoner.
‘The idea that he will be across the Atlantic from him most of the time is really tearing him apart.’
While Madonna has armed herself with one of the most formidable divorce lawyers in Britain, Fiona Shackleton, the woman who represented Prince Charles and Sir Paul McCartney in their high-profile divorces, Guy has procured himself an equally impressive representative: Helen Ward.
Helen secured a £48 million payout – the largest ever in Britain – for Beverly Charman, the ex-wife of an insurance big-wig.
It looks set to be a battle of rather large proportions, but let’s hope it doesn’t turn in to a media circus like the McCartney-Mills mayhem.
