  • Gossip Girl alert: Spin-off series to focus on Lily van der Woodsen

Listen up Gossip Girl fans, we have some very exciting news: the rumoured spin-off show has been confirmed.

That’s right, if your Gossip Girl fix just doesn’t feed your craving enough, the hottest news in TV world is that a spin-off series has been ordered for a pilot and will still be delivered by O.C and Gossip Girl creator, Josh Schwartz.

So what juicy storyline awaits us? Well, prepare to step back in time as Lily van der Woodsen’s scandalous teen years are exposed as she grows up during the 1980s.

The Noughties style will be dropped in favour of throwback 80s garb – expect shoulder pads, brights and ra-ra skirts (not dissimilar to today, then).

When rumours first surfaced of a spin-off, many thought the show would focus on Taylor Momsen’s character, Jenny Humphrey.

Instead, the series will chart Lily’s move from a glitzy boarding school lifestyle in Montecito, California to a public school in the San Fernando Valley.

Network bosses described the show: ‘Caught between two worlds, Lily dives into the fast-paced Sunset Strip and the Hollywood lifestyle of the ’80s, journeying over the hill to a world of wealth and excess that used to be her own.’

Along the road, Lily meets a young Rufus Humphrey, who at some point gets her pregnant.

Josh Schwartz explained: ‘We are inspired by the opportunity to tell overlapping stories and introduce characters that will appear in the past and the present—and hopefully enrich both shows.’

‘We love exploring fashion, pop culture, music and a heightened world that’s just a little more fun than the one we actually live in. L.A. in the ’80s totally fits the bill.’
