Who wore it best at the 2009 Golden Globes?
The Hollywood A-list was out in force last night, donning their most glamorous looks for the 2009 Golden Globes awards. But who won in the style stakes?
The night’s big award winner, Kate Winslet, also scored a nod of approval on the red carpet, looking classically elegant in black strapless Yves St Laurent.
Although LBDs are an awards ceremony staple, Winslet was in the minority at this year’s ceremony.
Instead, the red carpet was awash with statement colour – Eva Longoria, the evening’s host, ensured all eyes were on her, with her stunning red Reem Acra fishtail gown, while Cameron Diaz glowed in pink Chanel.
Asymmetric dresses – the shape of choice for spring/summer ’09 – provided some of the night’s most stylish looks, with Mamma Mia star Amanda Seyfried looking ethereal in her soft silver version.
Always a step ahead of the style pack, Maggie Gyllenhaal wore a turqoise print Lanvin version, one of the night’s more fashion-forward choices.
Strapless gowns were also a favourite. Anne Hathaway led the pack, in a dramatic Giorgio Armani Prive bustier gown, which was also the label of choice for Penelope Cruz, who wore a pale gold, silk chiffon, shoulder-baring number.
Out of the strapless pack, Kate Beckinsale stood out from the crowd, wowing in a white J. Mendel custom-made dress.
There was no shortage of stars out to make a statement. Jennifer Lopez stepped out in a daring plunge gold gown by Marchesa, while Beyonce was all about the bling, with her glittering Elie Saab couture beaded gown, teamed with a 200-carat platinum and diamond necklace.
Opting for the more subtle option, Angelina Jolie may have played it safe with her silver-beaded Versace dress, but the simple lines and flawless make-up made the Changeling nominee one of our picks for best dressed of the evening.
