DJ Norman Cook checks himself into specialist facility for alcohol addiction
DJ Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, has checked into rehab to combat an alcohol addiction, according to his manager.
Cook, who has had a host of dance hits including 1999’s number one, Praise You, chose to check himself into a specialist facility on Monday this week.
Manager Garry Blackburn confirmed: ‘Norman is voluntarily seeking help for his alcohol problem but he’s in good shape.’
The 45-year-old DJ married former Radio 1 anchor woman Zoe Ball in 1999 and the pair have a seven-year-old son together, Woody.
Cook reportedly has the full support and backing from his wife and family over his decision to treat his addiction.
The Brighton-based DJ has made no secret of his penchant for boozing. He once said: ‘Sometimes it feels a little undignified but I never seem to get tired of getting drunk. I’ve tried going on stage sober and it wasn’t much fun.
‘It takes a lot of alcohol to stop me thinking ‘What are you doing whirling that towel above your head?’’
An interview with the Guardian last week revealed that Cook confessed there were some recording sessions he could not remember owing to the amount he had drunk.
