  • The golfer has been awarded a sporting accolade while rumours suggest his wife Elin will leave him in the new year

In what might strike most of the world as a surprising move, the Associated Press have voted Tiger Woods their Athlete of the Decade.

Despite the recent scandals that have shocked sports fans, Woods’ contribution to golf is unparalleled. Over the past ten years, he has won 64 tournaments, including 12 major championships, and has held aloft a trophy on every continent where golf is played.

And in Dubai, work is still going ahead on a new course which Woods designed personally. It’s the first one he has ever done, and Dubai Properties Group, the firm bankrolling it, is standing by him.

Unfortunately, however, it looks as if Woods’ wife Elin Nordegren might not be doing the same. Sources close to the Swedish former model have said she plans to leave him. ‘She’s made up her mind,’ says one. ‘There’s nothing to think about; he’s never going to change.’

Elin has been spotted without her wedding ring, and removal vans were seen this week outside the couple’s home in Windermere, Florida.
