We chatted to American actress, model and writer, Hari Nef, to find out her all-time greatest beauty tips...

International supermodel Hari Nef was first signed by global modelling agency IMG back in 2015– their roster includes the likes of Gisele Bundchen, Miranda Kerr, Lily Aldridge, Tyra Banks and Cara Delevingne (to name a few)–and Hari has been shaking up the fashion industry ever since.

Hari made her runway debut the same year for revolutionary brands like Hood By Air and Ekkhaus. Since then she’s stormed the catwalk for Gucci in Milan where she walked the AW16 menswear show. It’s this versatility and chameleon-like ability to totally transform her looks from barefaced blonde to something more androgynous that’s earned Hari an international fan base and a loyal fashion following.

Equally successful as an actress, Hari has won roles in Emmy award-winning series Transparent and Assassination Nation, as part of a start-studded cast alongside Bella Thorne, Suki Waterhouse and Bill Skarsgard.

As the face of Gucci’s Bloom fragrance, our Beauty and Style Director Lisa Oxenham had the opportunity to chat to Hari about her new role and to discover her all time greatest beauty tips...

On her beauty philosophy...

'Authenticity is key.' Rather than one size fits all Hari challenges that perspective: 'As far as I'm concerned, beauty isn't something that can be discussed in a general sense, it's one size fits one - not one size fits all.'

On self-care....

'Self love takes practice,' says Hari, who advises starting the process gradually and building up. 'If you can love your body until the end of the day, then you can go to bed, get up and do it again.'

On her beauty inspiration...

'My icons are always someone who looks like me a little bit. I always wanted something that was attainable for me.'

On Instagram beauty...

'Highlighter is definitely one of those Instagram generations obsessions I buy into. It definitely makes you look more impressive. I apply a glowing primer, and then, using my finger, I put highlighter on top. Sometimes I dull it down with a little blusher or a translucent powder. I much prefer highlighting to contouring, which I think can look too obviously like someone is manipulating their appearance.'

On her favourite fragrance...

'I feel pretty, confident and sexy when I'm wearing Gucci Bloom. It's light and floral with notes of tuberose and jasmine.'

On makeup mishaps...

'Early in my career when I didn't get make-up so much, I barely knew how to apply it and tried to keep it really simple. I would just apply my best foundation and thought that was all you needed. Then when I looked back at the images I looked so stark and severe. Now, I know that it's all about recreating your natural colour and tones. When I'm going out at night blusher is great, I like Gucci Sheer Blushing Powder in Nude Freesia.'

On mastering the perfect catseye...

'I still cry when I apply my eyeliner! But it's the best thing you can use if you want to make your eyes pop and add a bit of strength. Liner looks totally different on everyone - it can make some people look too severe but the trick is to build it up gradually.'

It's easy to apply too much so Hari advises checking your progress as you go, 'if I look in the mirror and I like what I see I have to remind myself to stop and get out the door before I apply anymore!'

On makeup minimalism...

'When I'm off set or not on the red carpet I'm very minimal. My aim for makeup is it for it to be as quick and easy as possible.'
