Grammy nominations announced

Amy Winehouse and Kanye West lead Grammy nominations

Kanye West and Amy Winehouse will be the leading contenders at February’s Grammy awards, with a total of fourteen nominations between them. Kanye tops the list with eight, which include album of the year, with Amy close behind with six, including song of the year for Rehab and best new artist.

The nominations come as a positive end to a tumultuous year for both artists. West lost his mother in November, after she died from complications in cosmetic surgery, whereas Winehouse has cancelled a tour, seen her husband jailed and been rushed to hospital following an overdose.

Other possible big winners include Timbaland, Justin Timberlake and Foo Fighters, each with five nominations.

The biggest award of the night, Record of the Year, will be a race between Beyoncé Knowles for Irreplaceable, the Foo Fighters for The Pretender, Rihanna’s Umbrella and Justin Timberlake for What Goes Around Comes Around.
