Forget man-flu - women take more sickies than men
Forget man-flu. When it comes to taking sickies from work, women beat men hands down.
A new survey has found that while two-thirds of men will turn up at work with a cold, only half of women will struggle in when feeling under the weather.
Men in manufacturing and other manual jobs such as construction were the most hardy, with more than 70% turning up for work when they feel ill.
Women aged between 18 and 24 who worked in the travel, hotel or public relations sector were the most likely to call in sick. Other ‘wimpy’ professions included lawyers, accountants and those in IT.
Beechams surveyed more than 2,000 adults about how they cope with cold and flu symptoms, the Daily Mail reports.
In both sexes, it found that those aged between 45 and 55 were most likely to leave their sickbed and clock in to work.
The survey also asked for the most bizarre excuses for taking a day off work and responses included ‘A bird pooed on my head’, ‘I have to go to the first day of the Next sale’ and ‘I was cooking my breakfast in the microwave and it exploded’.
