Eden Project féted at top architectural awards

THE EDEN PROJECT has been named best British building of the past 20 years at a prestigious architectural award ceremony.

At a special 20th anniversary awards for the British Construction Industry, the Eden Project was named ‘best of the best’, while the Channel Tunnel was lauded as the top civil engineering project.

‘We are so proud and humbled to have won this award,’ said the Eden Project’s chief executive, ‘especially in the light of the fabulous projects that Britain has spawned in a modern renaissance over the past two decades.

‘For us it has been a privilege to have been offered the opportunity to follow our dreams and build ‘Eden’ and to watch the engineers, architects and landscape architects weave their genius.’

The Eden Project has raised more than £800 million for the regional economy in Cornwall since opening in 2001 and has attracted more than eight million visitors.
