Prince William will leave his post as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot this summer, around the time of the birth of his first child with Kate Middleton, an insider has revealed.

A military insider told American magazine Us Weekly that Prince William will conclude his service at the RAF base in Anglesey once his current stint comes to an end.

'William is ready to take on new challenges - as a royal and within the armed forces,' the source said.

They added William will make an official announcement next month and, leave officially around the time Kate Middleton gives birth, thought to be July.

The Prince 'will be making an announcement within the next month and leave RAF Valley around the time of the birth,' the source concluded.

Prince William's decision to leave the RAF comes after months of speculation over whether he will continue his Air Force career, or return to London to take up full-time royal duties.

When asked about the royal's plans, an William's press officer said: 'The decision as to what the Duke will do once his current tour with the Search and Rescue Force comes to an end in late summer is still with the Duke himself.'

This comes as it is revealed Kate Middleton has been given the rest of the year off to spend time with her new baby and adjust to motherhood.

It's thought Prince William and pregnant Kate Middleton have been spending some 'time together' at their cottage in Anglesey, the first time Kate has been back since announcing her pregnancy in December.

'She is feeling great at the moment,' a source said.

Yesterday it was reported Kate's sister Pippa is planning to throw her a lavish baby shower in London, ahead of the royal baby's birth this summer.

‘Pippa is in charge of decorations. Wine and beer will be available — not that Kate will be drinking alcohol, of course,' one source told Ok! Magazine.

‘While it’s all going to be very relaxed and fun, Kate is hoping the Queen will drop by because the two are remarkably close.

‘They really enjoy each other’s company. Since this is going to be a first for royals, Kate would love the Queen to be part of it.’
