    Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are celebrating the birth of twins, a son named Knox Leon, and a daughter, Vivienne Marcheline.

    The latest additons to the Jolie-Pitt brood were delivered by caesarean section, at the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France.

    Dr Martin Sussman, who delivered the babies on Saturday confirmed the birth to the Nice Matin newspaper, and commented, ‘The babies are doing well. The operation went just perfectly.’

    He added, ‘Angelina is in very good spirits. Brad Pitt was at her side. He was there and all was well.’

    Knox weighed 5lbs 3ozs, and Vivienne 5 lbs.

    The actress checked into the Nice hospital on 1 June. Dr Sussman told the Assocated Press that the birth had been brought forward ‘for medical reasons’, on which he did not elaborate. He added that Jolie would remain in hospital for a number ofdays.

    The twins are the fifth and sixth children for Jolie and Pitt. They adopted Maddox, 6, Pax, 4 and Zahara, 3 and have a biological daughter, Shiloh,
