  • Number of cosmetic procedures soars in America

Americans are growing increasingly fond of plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures according to the country’s latest census poll.

Between 2001 and 2007, the number of ‘cosmetic remodelling’ procedures rose from 8.5million to a massive 11.7million. The most popular choice? Botox, which accounted for 2.8m procedures, closely followed by facial fillers, such as hyaluronan injections.

When it comes to more invasive treatments, liposuction topped the league table, accounting for 457,000 surgical procedures, while breast augmentations were the second most popular choice.

And it’s not just women booking themselves in for a quick nip and tuck, men accounted for around a million of the procedures which took place last year.

It’s not surprising lipo is so popular when you take a glance across some of the other census info available; a third of Americans are now clinically obese, including 30% of 18 to 44-year-olds.
