Announcement follows M&S bust-up over £2 surcharge for larger sizes
It seems that Asda has triumphed in the Bra Wars – the store’s George label yesterday unveiled a £4 bra.
And it will be available in A-F cups at no extra charge for the larger sizes. Now brand director Fiona Lambert is calling on other retailers to end their ‘prejudice’ against big-breasted women.
She said: ‘No one would dream of charging one price for size seven men’s socks and another for larger feet.’
It follows the bust-up over Marks & Spencer charging £2 more for DD-cups and above.
Facebook group Busts for Justice now has 8,000 members asking M&S to have a rethink. Founder Beckie Williams, 26, even bought an M&S share so she could raise the issue at its next AGM. Beckie said: ‘They don’t do it for other items of clothing.’
Fashion expert Amber Morales’ verdict on the bra was mixed: ‘You can’t argue with the ‘one price fits all’ policy, and the £4 Asda bra certainly looks nice – it’s satin and comes in pink, pale blue and purple. But the thin straps and delicate clasps don’t look like they’d take much strain – it might prove a let-down for the ample-chested.’
