Nicholas Kirkwood would like the Duchess of Cambridge to be more adventurous with her style of shoes, he has revealed in an interview

Almost everything she wears sells out in hours, as fashion fans clamour to get their hands on a slice of Kate Middleton's much-revered style. But it seems not everyone's such a fan. Shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood has slammed the Duchess of Cambridge's taste in shoes, revealing they're just not 'princess-y' enough for his liking.

Kate, a firm fans of L.K. Bennett's Sledge 2 shoe, has sparked a revolution in nude courts over the 12 months.

The Duchess also caused a swathe of slingback wedges to hit the high street, after sporting a navy raffia pair several times during her trip to Canada last year.

But according to shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood, Kate Middleton needs to branch out.

‘She just wears too much high street stuff. I know she’s trying to be democratic, but I don’t know how many pairs of LK Bennett you can wear,' the German-born shoe told the Daily Beast in a new interview.

‘She does occasionally come out and is wearing McQueen or something like that. It’s like, “Do that more! You’re meant to be a princess-y type of person, so act like one!”’

Wow.

The designer, famous for dressing the feet of everyone from Sarah Jessica Parker to Beyonce, with his sculptured and colourful footwear creations, has created a special shoe to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee this summer.

And he'd love to see the Duchess of Cambridge sporting his new design.

‘It’d be great if she (Kate) did wear my shoes,’ Kirkwood added.
