Prince William will skip a series of engagements to attend the funeral of nanny Olga Powell
Kate Middleton is to visit Newcastle tomorrow, following the death of Prince William’s nanny, Olga Powell.
According to reports, the Duke of Cambridge has cancelled appearances at a string of events during the day, leaving the Duchess of Cambridge to tour the North East without him.
It’s thought Prince William will attend the funeral of his former nanny during the day, while Kate Middleton carries on with the engagements.
Olga Powell was nanny to Prince William and Prince Harry for more that 15 years, and is credited with helping the young royals through their parents’ divorce, and the tragic death of their mother, Princess Diana.
Before attending Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton last year, she said William and Harry had been ‘like my grandsons,’ revealing she tried to help them have ‘as ordinary a childhood as they could.’
‘I have a very normal relationship with them,’ she said.
‘Their upbringing was very normal and their parents wanted them to have as ordinary a childhood as they could.
‘If they saw a muddy puddle they wanted to jump in it and if there was something to climb, they wanted to climb it.’
A St James’s Palace spokesman said: ‘Given the significant role that Mrs Powell played in the Princes’ lives, the Duke wished to pay his respects in person.’
