Simon Cowell tempts Britney Spears back to Britain
Britney Spears is set to perform on The X Factor – in her first visit to Britain in four years.
If anyone was going to tempt Britney back to Britain, it was always bound to be smooth-talking Simon Cowell.
The music mogul has persuaded the star to perform her new single, Womanizer, on the hit ITV1 show – which now boasts Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue as judges – in December.
It will be Britney’s first visit here since her Onyx Hotel tour more than four years ago.
One insider from the show told The Sun: ‘Everyone is thrilled. To have Britney involved is a massive coup. They expect ratings to go through the roof when her performance airs.’
Meanwhile, Britney’s mum, Lynne, has talked about her daughter’s public breakdown on US television, insisting she never pushed the young star into the limelight.
‘Britney pushed me,’ she said. ‘What was I to do? Persuade my child not to go after her dreams?
‘She was in high school, was the homecoming maid and was most popular. She had everything going for her.
‘I could not understand why she wanted to leave such a happy little nest.’
Lynne said no one in the family was prepared for the ‘ugly side of fame’, and that she did everything she could to help Britney through her meltdown.
She also revealed that she believed Britney – who is set to release her 6th album Circus in December – is once again ‘looking at the sunshine’ and ‘headed [back] to the top’.
