The mum-to-be talks maternity style as the Kardashians launch their new clothing collection for Dorothy Perkins
Kim Kardashian, who has come under fierce criticism for her maternity style, has revealed that sister Kourtney is her pregnancy fashion icon.
The US star, who is expecting her first child with rapper boyfriend Kanye West, was talking ahead of the launch of the new Kardashian Kollection clothing line for British high street store Dorothy Perkins, of which she and her two sisters, Kourtney and Khloé, co-design.
Speaking exclusively to Marie Claire, Kim said: 'During the early stages of my pregnancy I was more focused on concealing the weight gain than I was about dressing the bump, but once I really started to show I have been loving maxi dresses! I’ve even borrowed a couple of looks from Kourtney because I loved the way she dressed when she was pregnant.'
The new Dorothy Perkins collection is the second from the Kardashians and the spring/summer 2013 offering features all of the hallmarks of the original range – think sexy body-con dresses, flirty skater skirts, floral print blouses and tailored jackets. But what was the inspiration this time around?
'We’re proud LA girls, but we love the way women in London dress,' says Khloé. 'I think that eclectic vibe definitely inspired our new Kardashian Kollection.'
Kourtney adds: 'Our line for Dorothy Perkins is definitely designed with the British girl in mind. British girls style things in a completely different way than girls back home. You could give a girl in LA and a girl in London a couple of pieces from the collection and tell them to accessorise and they would create a completely different outfit.'
While they've achieved their goal of creating an 'affordable line that will look great on women of all shapes and sizes' the Kardashian sisters don't rule out following the lead of other high street brands, such as Topshop, River Island and Whistles, and presenting their collections on the catwalk.
'It would be a huge dream come true to see our collection go down the runway,' says Kourtney. 'So, maybe in the future, who knows? I think it would be something we’d really have to take time off of our busy schedules to focus on, since it’s a huge production, and so far we just haven’t had time.'
And with Kim expecting and Kourtney already a mother of two, can we expect a maternity line from the Kardashians in the future? 'Who knows what the future may hold!' Khloé reveals. 'We’re always open to new opportunities so you never know.'
