Simon Cowell was said to be 'terrified' after a face-to-face encounter with a woman who broke into his home armed with a brick on Saturday night.
In an incredible lapse of security, it is believed the woman gained entry to Simon's £9m West London property via a downstairs window before wandering from room to room, and even laying on his bed.
It was in the lounge she came face-to-face with the music mogul, whose worth is an estimated £300m.
The Britain's Got Talent judge, 52, told a friend: 'It was an absolutely terrifying experience. Seeing this woman standing there in my house was like something out of a horror movie.
'It was frightening but I’m going to take it as a warning. In some ways I’ve been lucky. You have to look on the positive side because it could have been a whole lot worse.
He added: 'I now know that I need to improve my security. She could have had a gun.'
