Kate Middleton has made no secret of the fact that she's a huge fan of the high street. So it came as no surprise to discover she chose a £57 French Connection blouse to sit for her royal portrait.

The Duchess of Cambridge, who unveiled her painting at the National Portrait Gallery last week, wore the high street store's Sub Silky Tie Top in navy for the appearance, in the first official portrait of her to be revealed.

The chic, cap sleeved blouse with a delicate tie at the neck was part of French Connection's autumn/winter collection, priced at £57.

But the Kate Middleton-approved buy has since gone into the sale, meaning you can get your hands on the Duchess's top, which also comes in red, white and aqua, for the bargain price of £28.

This is not the first time the Duchess has worn one of French Connection's moderately priced pieces.

Kate has previously been spotted rummaging through the sale racks at the brand's King's Road store, treating herself to several items, all under £50.

'She was very polite. She keeps to herself' one member of French Connection staff told American magazine People at the time. 'She was very cheery, very smiley.'

The radiant Duchess of Cambridge arrived to watch the portrait, a work by award-winning artist Paul Emsley, be unveiled on Friday.

The soft focus head and shoulders portrait, commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery, reportedly follows Kate's suggestion to depict her natural, not official, persona.

Yesterday it was revealed pregnant Kate Middleton will take another month off from public engagements, as she recovers from a bout of severe morning sickness.

A royal spokesman, who also revealed the Duke and Duchess's baby will arrive in July, said Kate expects to continue with her commitments 'in the near future'.

For now though, after having her crucial 12-week scan, where doctors told Kate her little one is in perfect health, she’ll spend her time resting at home and out of the public eye.
