Bookmakers have slashed the odds of Kate Middleton having a baby girl, after her slip up in Grimsby
Bookmakers have slashed the odds of Kate Middleton having a girl, after she seemingly revealed the sex of her unborn baby by accident during a visit to Grimsby earlier this week.
The Duchess of Cambridge sparked much speculation with her slip of the tongue, which came as she chatted to members of the public during a walkabout.
Stepping forward to take a teddy bear from one, Kate is said to have replied: ‘Thank you, I’ll take that for my d …’ before stopping herself.
Diana Burton told the telegraph: ‘I said to her, ‘You were going to say daughter, weren’t you?’ and she said, ‘No, we don’t know’.
‘I said, “Oh I think you do”, to which she said, “We’re not telling”.’
Following Kate’s revelation, bookmakers Ladbrokes has slashed it’s odds on the couple having a girl from 4/5 to 1/2, while for a boy, the odds are 6/4.
Fellow firm William Hill has suspended betting on the sex of the royal baby completely.
Spokesman Rupert Adams said: ‘Although the story is by no means conclusive, our customers came piling in and we were forced to suspend the market 10pm on Tuesday evening.’
Royal watchers are also flooding to bet on names for the royal baby, with Diana, Elizabeth, Victoria and Frances all at the top of the table.
Kate Middleton recycled her favourite chocolate Hobbs coat for her visit to Grimsby, which saw her attend the the Fishing Heritage Centre, before moving on to Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.
