Beyonce has made social media history with the powerful new video in aid of World Humanitarian Day

Beyonce Knowles has released the video for 'I Was Here' in aid of World Humanitarian Day - and has made social media history by sharing more than one million messages.

The superstar is working with the United Nations and aid organisations to encourage and celebrate the humanitarian work worldwide.

Campaign numbers around the world soared after Beyonce, wearing a dramatic floor-length white Marc Bouwer gown, recorded the video for the song 'I Was Here'.

The 30-year-old singer said: 'We all see the headlines and we think, 'What can I really do to help?'

'World Humanitarian Day is an opportunity for all of us to work together to make a difference. This is our time to leave our mark on the world and show that we were here and we care,' she added.

We couldn't agree more, Bey.
