    If you’re feeling depressed, rather than curl up under your duvet, take a shower, throw on some clothes, and go to work. Why? It’s the best natural mood lift you can get.

    Occupational therapists who monitored 500 individuals off work due to depression, discovered that those who went back to work and – this is the key – enjoyed caring, positive support from their boss, made a much quicker recovery.

    ‘Employers are often frightened of contacting an employee for fear of being accused of harassment but sympathetic contact and early help through occupational health can identify the most appropriate support,’ explains Dr Gordon Parker, of the Society of Occupational Medicine.
